Heavy rainfall continues to lash Gujarat, 10 NDRF rescue teams pre-positioned

A flood-like situation is prevalent in
several parts of Gujarat, as heavy rains have hit the state since Friday night.
Ten National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescue teams were pre-positioned in
several flood-prone areas in the state. So far, the Gujarat relief department
has confirmed 61 rain-related deaths in the state. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay
Rupani conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Chotila and Maliya
on Sunday.
Rupani held a assembly with officials and asked the management to
help people while heavy rains are probable until July 29. "NDRF, IAF and
state rescue teams have rescued up to 214 people, stuck in different
places," said Rupani.
According to an ANI report, the Indian
Air Force on Monday safely evacuated a woman, her newborn twins and another
pregnant woman from Nana Matra village in Vinchia tehsil of Rajkot.
According to a PTI report, officials
on Sunday said more than 7,000 people had been moved to safer places in the
past two days.
"Over the past two days, about
7,000 people in the Morbi, Rajkot, Surendranagar, Banaskantha and Ahmedabad
districts have been relocated to safe places. Rescue operations began in Kalol
of Gandhiangar and Deodar in Banskantha, as both places received eight Inches
of rainfall during the past 24 hours, "said Relief State Director AJ Shah.
Rail and road traffic has also been
disrupted due to the water cut in the town of Maliya Miyana in the district of
Morbi. "Two hundred people were rescued from diverse parts of the district
by the NDRF, IAF and fire brigade teams," said Morbi district collector IK
Patel.
