‘Over last 3 yrs, 26 NDA cadets declared medically unfit due to injuries’

ANSWER
to a question from a Rajya Sabha member, Defense Minister Subhash Bhamre said
Tuesday that 26 NDA cadets have been declared unfit and withdrawn from training
due to injuries during the past three years and the year in course. Bhamre gave
the information in a written response to Parimal Nathwani, a member of Rajya
Sabha.
According
to the answer, the number of cadets declared "medically unfit" are as
follows: Term of Spring 2014 (5), Term of Fall 2014 (1), Term of Spring 2015
(7), Term of Fall 2015 ) 2016 (1), Fall Term 2016 (6), Spring Term 2017 (2),
Fall Term 2017 (NIL). The response also said: "NDA cadets who are
medically shipped do not receive ex-military status (ESM), since the cadets
have not yet been commissioned as officers and are therefore not counted
as" military personnel " "For the welfare of cadets of the
NDA".
"The
following programs are being implemented: Ex gratia benefits in cases of
disability: - the cadet when embarked medically is entitled to the following
benefits: gratification per gratification rs 3500 per month. Ex-gratia

Rs 3,000 pm for 100 percent disability as recommended in invalidating the

"Preference
in employment in government jobs: Cadets who are invalid for medical reasons
attributable to military training are given priority 1 for the purpose of
employment in the government service. The cadet consequent to his injury is
provided medical treatment for free at Military Hospital, Command Hospital and
Research and Reference Hospital, Delhi, "reads the answer. "A cadet
is only invalidated at the medical board if he does not recover from the injury
and is considered unfit for further military training with the aforementioned
treatment. Data on the costs of such treatment are not maintained," he
