For
four years Daniah Fatima and six years Mohammed Fuzail, the youngest members of
the Mohammed family at Central Street near Shivajinagar, Eid is not just the
end of Ramzan's month, but one of two days a year coming to spend with theirfather and uncle.
Mohammed
Suhail, 28, his father and Mohammed Salman, 25, uncle, who run a retail store
in town, are able to leave work twice a year, after Eid and the other at
Bakrid.
"Unless
my 54-year-old mother fractured her arm in an accident a few days ago,
everything is as bright and colorful as she can on Eid. Wearing new clothes and
shoes to celebrate the occasion with exquisite sauces and gift exchanges, Eid
is always the day we look forward to," Salman said.
"Eid's
night is the best part of the celebration, the home is filled with guests and
relatives, and I also have some time to chat with my friends and family,"
said Nazma Kaser, 27, mother of Daniah .
For
the whole family, the day begins with a visit to the mass at Masjid-eKhadria,
followed by a brief trip to the tombs to pay homage to the tombs of their
relatives. It is followed by a sumptuous lunch and a visit to friends and
relatives in the evening.
Children's
faces come on as their old men push the money into their pockets as a gift from
Eid.
